Dairy Farming

Japan’s grant for dairy development is designed to empower smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of the country’s dairy production. The funding will go towards modernising farming practices, improving milk quality and safety, and introducing sustainable methods to make dairy farming more profitable and resilient.

The indigenously developed technology ‘Gausort’ was launched by the prime minister earlier on  5 October 2024 will be used in sex sorting. Through Gausort technology, Sex Sorted Semen will be available to the farmers of the eastern and north-eastern region at reasonable rates.

Indian agriculture is at a turning point, under the double pressure of having to feed a rising population while being internationally competitive.

Women farmers were trained in better feeding, mineral mixes, housing, and preventive healthcare, along with support to access finance and markets. Gradually, goat mortality dropped from 53 percent in 2022 to just 9.6 percent in 2025.

He said that in their ambitious target to set up 2 lakh multipurpose cooperative societies in the country in 5 years, 35,395 new cooperative societies have been formed so far.

Chouhan stated that over the past 10 years, crop production has increased from 246.42 million tonnes to 353.96 million tonnes.

Shah revealed that in the coming months, cooperative dairies would start leveraging cow dung to produce organic manure and biogas.

The Union Minister highlighted the Government of India’s steadfast commitment to the growth of Jammu and Kashmir’s livestock and fisheries sectors as engines of rural income and nutritional security.
