    Alt Urban Global Summit Kicks Off in Delhi

    Embarked on a mission to enable 1 million green homes by 2030 under its flagship programme- Alt Urban, the Summit served as a dynamic platform for sharing replicable models, policy insights, and grounded innovations in the urban built environment.

    The Development Alternatives Group, along with its partners, on Tuesday convened the Alt Urban Global Summit 2025 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, bringing together diverse voices from government, civil society, industry, and academia to chart a path toward climate-resilient and inclusive urban development. Embarked on a mission to enable 1 million green homes by 2030 under its flagship programme- Alt Urban, the Summit served as a dynamic platform for sharing replicable models, policy insights, and grounded innovations in the urban built environment.

    The day opened with the Leaders’ Forum for Urban Transformation, where leading experts and practitioners included Dr Shailesh Agarwal, BMTPC, MoH & Urban Affairs, GoI, Dr Bhaskar Natrajan, AEEE; Mr Sanjay Seth, TERI & GRIHA Council; Dr Priyanka Kochhar, The Habitat Emprise; Mr Balasubramanian Iyer, International Cooperatives Alliance (ICA), Asia-Pacific and Dr Soumen Maity, TARA moderated by Mr Rajiv Tikoo, Sustainability Karma. The forum addressed critical themes like affordable green housing, decarbonisation of construction, and enabling policy frameworks for circular, low-carbon cities.

    The programme was launched with the Alt Urban Sustainable Housing Challenge, a national design competition focused on sustainable housing solutions, was another highlight of the day. The Summit featured a screening of a short film on the journey of the Challenge, followed by the announcement of the winners and the release of the publication“Journey of the Alt Urban Housing Challenge.”The challenge was won by Eco Dwell Design Lab.Ms JatanShekhawat, Co-Creator Dhun.Lifespoke on their support for the Housing Challenge.

    Viksit Bharat 2047

    Speaking during the summit, Mr. Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India, said “In line with the 2030 Agenda and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, India is advancing inclusive, climate-resilient housing at scale and pace. The UN in India is proud to be partnering with the Government, civil society, private sector and other stakeholders to foster inclusive, resilient and greener urban futures. The Development Alternatives Alt Urban campaign and its platform, Trialogue 2047, could not be more timely, uniting diverse voices to reimagine India’s cities.”

    While Mr. Shrashtant Patara, CEO, Development Alternatives, said, “India’s urban transition is a historic opportunity to build cities that are inclusive, resilient, and regenerative – not just for some, but for all.     During the 28th edition of trialogue2047, titled “Shaping Green Urban Futures,” brought the focus to long-term strategies for urban transformation in India. The session featured keynote remarks from Mr Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India, and a high-powered discussion with Ms Shikha Shrivastava, TATATrusts, Mr SarathBabu MG, NIUA and Ms Umit Bhatia, Sustainability Strategy, AsiaPacific, JLL moderated by Mr Shrashtant Patara, CEO, Development Alternatives. As part of the session, the publication “Shaping Green Urban Futures” was officially launched, presenting forward-looking frameworks for inclusive and circular urban planning.

    The Summit concluded with reflections on how collaborative governance, people-centred design, and climate innovation can collectively reimagine India’s urban future, aligning with the nation’s goals for Viksit Bharat @2047.Alt Urban Global Summit has been supported by Dhun Life, Socrates, BMTPC, Griha Council, SPARC, IFC, Climate Rise Alliance, Build Ahead, UofT India Foundation, International Cooperative Alliance – Asia Pacific and The CSR Universe.
