The Nobel Laureate vowed that the next election would be the best in the country’s history. Yet uncertainty looms large, particularly over whether the Awami League, the party led by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be allowed to participate.

Whether the two parties can bridge the gap and reach a mutually acceptable agreement remains to be seen. The Sri Lankan government's insistence on price revision and Adani’s re-affirmation of the initial terms, clearly sets the stage for a tense negotiation period.

Severe funding shortfalls have already forced the closure of more than 200 health facilities, impacting nearly two million people, as well as resulted in significant reductions to essential malnutrition services.
