Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena visited Jaffna on Friday, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing living standards in the northern peninsula amidst preparations for upcoming elections.

Addressing the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee, Gunawardena stressed, “This government is dedicated to improving the living conditions of the Jaffna Peninsula.” His remarks underscored increased financial allocations for local development initiatives and infrastructure improvements.

Gunawardena engaged with Tamil political leaders at the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat Office, where he oversaw the distribution of rice and egg incubators to low-income families. He described his visit as an opportunity “to monitor the progress made by all of you, as well as to get a little feedback where we stand today.”

The Prime Minister acknowledged the pivotal role of farmers in national development, highlighting their contribution to the private sector economy. “Farmers are all private contributors to the national development of the economy,” he remarked.
