Violence against women

Hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi students took to the streets across the country early Sunday in a massive outcry against rape and crimes against women, following the brutal sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Magura.

In the past five years, 88 per cent of countries have passed laws to eliminate violence against women and girls. 44 per cent are working towards improving the quality of education and training. More girls are now attending secondary and tertiary education compared to boys.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Justice for All expressed alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation, particularly as the nation undergoes significant political transition.

As the third year of war unfolds, the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine remains one of the most pressing global emergencies. The need for sustainable peace cannot be overstated.

UNAMA’s quarterly report highlighted sections of the ministry’s law, claiming it imposes new restrictions on women. It stated that the law formalises previous decrees and broadens existing limitations while introducing additional ones.

If current trends continue, Oxfam predicts that five trillionaires will emerge within the next decade. In stark contrast, the number of people living in poverty has remained nearly unchanged since 1990.

Participants expressed appreciation for these evidence-based proposals, agreeing to review them further in the next consultation session.
